Several Iranian goldsmiths and experts of ornamentations are set to attend the 1st International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry in Uzbekistan.

The festival will be held in 12 categories to be judged by art critics, specialists, folk masters, academics and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The jury will also consist of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, and the Craftsmen Association and the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

Iranian jewelry artists and enthusiasts who are willing to participate in the event should submit their applications at http://www.zarfestival.uz until March 14, 2022.

Winners will be awarded by the Organizing Committee with a diploma, a souvenir, and prizes which include $5,000 for the best gold embroider, $5,000 for the best jeweler, $3,000 for best master of embroidery school.

Goldsmiths is a metalworker who specializes in working with gold and other precious metals.

Unlike in the past when the goldsmith skill was passed along through apprenticeships, more recently jewelry arts schools are available to provide teachings in goldsmithing and many more skills falling under the jewelry arts umbrella.

Many universities and junior colleges also offer goldsmithing, silversmithing, and metal art fabrication as a part of their fine arts curriculum.

The International Festival of Gold Embroidery and Jewelry aims to promote gold embroidery as a tool to create job opportunities for young people in particular.

“The event will also embrace folk festivals, folklore and drama groups, theatrical performances of musicians and comedians, concert programs of artists and master classes by masters, artists’ squares, excursion routes,” writes the website of the festival.

The festival will take place from May 21 to 25, 2022 in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.
